On The 30th Anniversary Of The Unabomber Being Captured, Did You Know That We Stored The Cabin For The FBI?

Randy L. Turtle

Thirty years ago, our storage capabilities were put to the ultimate test with one of the nation’s most high-profile cases—the Unabomber Cabin. How would the Federal Defender’s office transport the cabin to SafeStore and more importantly, what was the best way for SafeStore to safely and securely store this crucial piece of evidence? We did it very successfully for 10 years. Since then, we have stored all kinds of critical evidence for our law enforcement clients that include the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service, IRS, and numerous Sheriff and Police Departments.

Let's Connect at CSSA

This weekend, we are heading to the CSSA conference and we’re bringing decades of evidence storage experience with us. If you are going to be there, we would love for you to stop by our booth so we can talk about how our team can secure your most critical evidence.

How SafeStore USA Got Involved in the Unabomber Case

Back in 1997, the FBI trusted SafeStore USA with a massive challenge, store the Unabomber’s cabin—completely intact— and keep it perfectly preserved for the upcoming trial.

The New York Times recently published a piece looking back at the Unabomber case and the famous cabin at the center of it all. For our team, reading that article brought back a lot of memories. It was truly a unique scenario where our team navigated strict federal requirements and heavy media attention to ensure that piece of history stayed completely secure. We stored the cabin for 10 years until it was ultimately moved to the Newseum in Washington, D.C., where it was displayed as part of an exhibit on the history of crime and punishment.

The Cabin is Back in the News

With the 30th anniversary coming up, nostalgia is in the air as we see this story making the rounds again in the national conversation.
